Civil Process Trainings
Soon after starting his law enforcement career with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, Rod Nelson attended BCA and FBI training to become a firearms and self-defense instructor for the county. After being promoted to the rank of sergeant, he attended William Mitchell College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctorate Degree. The majority of his 23 year career was spent in the Hennepin County Sheriff's Civil Division, later being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and retiring as the Captain and Division Commander of the Civil Division. Rod was recruited by the law firm of Lommen, Nelson, Stageberg and Cole PA, where he practiced law and was the Director of the firm's training subsidiary Comprendium for many years. He has also been a professor and instructor at a number of colleges including Concordia University, Hennepin Technical College, North Hennepin College and North Hennepin College teaching Constitutional Law and Legal Issues for Law Enforcement. Rod is also a frequent lecturer for the Minnesota Bar Association and is one of the authors of the MSBA Debtor-Creditor Handbook, which is the bible for Minnesota attorneys for collecting judgements. He has authored legislation in the areas of debtor-creditor law, landlord-tenant law, domestic abuse and other areas of law affecting the Sheriffs' civil process duties. He now serves as the Director of Law Enforcement Training Services, LLC which has partnered with the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association to provide quality training to law enforcement, attorneys and other professionals.
